Evelyn "Nana" Burke

Evelyn Grace Burke, 81, of Killeen, passed away early Sunday morning.

Funeral service for Evelyn, also known around town as “Nana”, will be held Thursday, January 12 at 1pm at Crawford-Bowers in Killeen.

She was born in Sylvania, Oh. to Robert and Carrie Davis on November 15, 1930 and was one-of-six children. She was a loving and supportive Army wife for most of her life, traveling the globe living in places such as Greece, Italy, and France.

In December of 1974, she married her best friend and life partner Sgt. Major Herald Burke in Florida. The two moved to Killeen in 1975 with their daughter Dondi.

Evelyn was a loving and supportive wife, mother, nana, and friend who was known for being full of energy and life. Nana was known for being a dedicated grandma who attended every baseball, hockey, and football game her grandsons ever played in and spent 164 nights a year loyally watching her Texas Rangers.

Evelyn will be greatly missed by her family; however we are appreciative of the time we got to spend with her and are happy she is now at peace. Evelyn’s warm spirit and kind heart was a blessing to all that were lucky enough to have known her.

Survivors include her husband, Herald; her daughter, Dondi Homan and her husband, Randy; her grandsons Dylan Townsend and Ryan Townsend and his wife Joclynn; and her sister Bette Palmer and her husband Jim.

The Burke family will receive guest for a time of visitation on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012 in the Chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jimmy Towers of Life way Fellowship Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers guest may make memorial contributes to the Second Chance Animal Shelter of Killeen.
