Fayez Charles Smien (Fay)

Visitation for longtime Killeen resident Fayez Smien will be Tuesday, November 12 from 6-8PM at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home with a Funeral Service on Wednesday, November 13 beginning at 10AM at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home, Killeen, Texas. Fay was born on February 10, 1936 in Smackover, Arkansas. The family moved back to Sweida, Syria not long after Fay was born. In 1957, he came to Killeen to join his older brothers in numerous family businesses.

In 1964 Fay married the love of his life, Carol Cason-Smien. From this union three beautiful children were born – Deena Faye Smien-Turner, Jeffery Jamal Smien and Jill Luree Smien-Williamson.

Fay was a businessman and gentleman rancher. He was most fortunate to marry a woman who loved the outdoors and animals as much as he. They raised cattle, goats, sheep, and horses. Then in the mid 80’s they branched out into exotic animals such as zebras, buffalo, ostrich, llamas, elk, etc.

Fay aways loved entertaining and cooking for his family and friends. He was famous for his barbecue and middle eastern dishes. Christmas and the Fourth of July were his favorite holidays. He was the firework stand’s best customer. Fay and Carol enjoyed traveling with their family throughout the US and overseas.

He was a good hard-working Father and Husband, loved his family and friends with a passion, enjoyed life and missed Carol something terrible.

Fay is survived by his daughter – Deena Smien-Turner of Austin, Texas, daughter – Jill Smien-Williamson and husband Joel of Georgetown, Texas. Grandchildren-Jacob, Jeena, Jackson and Joseph Turner of Austin, Joely and Jett Williamson of Georgetown, Jefferey Jr. Smien of Killeen and Connor Smien of Nolanville. Brother-Fawaz Assed and wife Amira of Killeen,Brother Faysal Assed of Killeen and Sisters – Sumaya Assed, Rasmiya Assed, Ramzeyeh Assed of Sweida, Syria. Brother in law-Ken Cason and wife Jan of Killeen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Fay is preceded in death by his parents, wife – Carol , and son – Jeffery Smien, Eldest brother Hussein (Uncle Charley) Smien and his wife – Effat Safady-Smien, Brothers – Faraj Assed and Fouzi Assed.

My mother managed the Venus Cafe for him and I never went hungry. He had only kindness, generosity, and respect for my family et all others. He gave my mother a job when she became single. She managed his Import/Export on Hallmark as well. Great businessman but better friend. R.I.P. You remain in my thoughts and heart ♥️

I would like to send heartfelt condolences to the Smien Family- Jeff Jr, Jill, Joe Turner, Deena and all of the family members I have not named. I had the pleasure of working for Faye at the Limousine Company many years ago. Faye had a driving work ethic like no other I have known. He was a Texan tried and true as well as a American Patriot. The Smien legacy will be missed I am certain. Again, I am truly sorry for your loss.

I was Faye’s Farmhand for almost 10yrs. He treated me like family. Was planning to visit him but didn’t know he was sick until someone had called me. Sending my condolences to the family. They’ve had a lot of trauma lately.
