George was born in Muskegon, Michigan on February 26, 1941 to Edna Artelle Bourdo Huggard and Elwood C Huggard. He grew up in Western Michigan where he attended Muskegon High School and made many lifelong friends.
He joined the US Army soon after school as his much-loved Stepfather, Jim Reed determined that George needed more structure. He served in post-World War II Germany in the 7th Army Signal Unit and was able to travel a bit in Europe. He met actress Gia Scala on location in Munich, Germany where she was filming, “I Aim at the Stars”. He was given a speaking part in the movie as an extra. He said it wasn’t much, but it was a thrill, nonetheless, as he was able to meet Gia Scala and Curt Juergens.
After the Army he worked in the Foundry Industry from 1960 until retiring in 2001. His career took him all over the U.S. In 1966 he married Elizabeth Ann Marshall and they continued to move around the country for several decades.
He and his wife, Elizabeth (Betty), settled in Somerset, Kentucky where they owned and operated a SIGN-
A-RAMA business for 8 years.
George enjoyed cars, traveling and spending time with friends and family. He was a gregarious man who loved to kid around, get into mischief, and make jokes. He rarely met a stranger.
He has lived with his son, James, in Killeen, TX for the last 6 years.
George is survived by his children Christopher Huggard, Michele Hutton, Tom Huggard, and James Huggard; his sisters, Harriet Huggard Shaw, Shirley Huggard Foreman, and his brother, Kit Huggard; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hayes, Rachel Alatza, and Sean Kersey; multiple great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Elizabeth Marshall Huggard; his daughter, Christine (Tina) Artelle Kersey and his sister Karlene Artelle Kolberg.
A memorial service will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen on Friday, March 10 at 11 a.m.
