He was born February 3, 1928 to Ralph and Ruth Shanks in Rogersville, TN and passed away on August 21, 2012 in Temple.
He served 27 years in the Army, retiring as a Master Sgt. He earned several awards including the Bronze Star w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster. He was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Shanks; sons George Riley Shanks, Jr. and wife Ines, and Mark Shanks; and a grandson Mark Riley Wes Allen Shanks.
