January 22, 1949 – July 23, 2021
Hans-Jurgen Johann Julius Hartung, age 72, of Killeen, Texas passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021. Hans was born January 22, 1949, in Augsburg-Goggingen Bavaria, Germany. He is predeceased by both parents, Kurt Hartung, and Maria Hartung. His loving sister, Margaret Kling resides in Jamestown, California. He is also survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Dolores Hartung, and their two sons, Christopher Hartung and Jonathan Hartung.
As a child, Hans’ mother moved both he and his sister to San Francisco, California so they could be closer to family already living there at the time. As a young man, Hans joined the US Army and was stationed at several military bases during his career: Walter Reed in Bethesda, Maryland, Fort Knox, Kentucky, Heidelberg, Germany, and finally to Fort Hood, Texas. Hans proudly served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne Division. After many years of military service, Hans decided to call Texas his forever home where he served the remainder of his military career before retiring.
Hans’ valor, bravery, and courage were appreciated and recognized as a soldier in the US Army. Hans served from 1968 through 1989 and was an Army E-7 at retirement.
