

Funeral services for Hubert Childress Sr., 81, of Killeen will be 10:30 am Friday, February 18, 2011 at Pershing Park Baptist Church. Rev. Joda Weston will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Mr. Childress passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011 in Scott & White Hospital in Temple, TX .
Hubert was born August 26, 1929 in Coleman, Texas to Mike and Minnie Childress. He was a graduated of Prairie View A&M in Prairie View, TX. He was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army in 1952 and married Andrewetta Russ in Longview, Texas on December 5, 1953.
LTC Childress retired from the US Army in 1972 after more than 20 years of faithful service. He served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Wars. His medals include the National Defense Service Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Staff Service Medal 1st Class, Vietnam Service Medal with1 Bronze Service Star, Legion of Merit, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and Meritorious Service Medal.
After his retirement from the military, he worked for the Bell County Adult Probation Department and retired from there in 1995. He served as the Chairman of the Deacons, Treasurer, and Sunday school teacher of the Pershing Park Baptist Church; was a member of Gideon’s Killeen Camp; was a past member of the Kiwanis Club; The Texas Baptist Brotherhood and Hallmark and Fort Hood Bowling Leagues.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Horace Childress and a great grandson, Devonte Childress-West.
Survivors include his wife, Andrewetta Childress of Killeen; one son, Hubert Childress, Jr. of Killeen; a daughter, Andrea H. Childress-Lee of Killeen; two brothers, Howard Childress of Coleman and Anthony Childress of San Antonio; three sisters, Helene Childress-Cummings and Hermia Jean Childress-Brown, both of Long Beach, CA; and Bennie Jewel Childress-Smith of Houston; one granddaughter, Tekesheia R. Lee of Garland, TX; a great grandson, Javonte Childress-West and a great granddaughter, Javana Childress-West, both of Garland, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, church family and friends.
A time of visitation will be Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
