June 2, 1944 – August 29, 2026
James L. Ranch, a dedicated veteran and beloved family man, passed away peacefully in Killeen, Texas.
James was born on June 2, 1944, in Marks, Mississippi. He was raised by his grandfather, Bradford “Buddy” Twilly—a veteran himself—who instilled in James a profound respect for discipline and service. At the age of 18, James answered the call of duty and was drafted into the U.S. Army. His commitment to his country was evident through two tours of duty in Vietnam. Upon returning home, James chose to make the military his life’s work, embarking on a distinguished 21-year career before his honorable retirement from the Army. Seeking to continue his life of public service, James later joined the Texas Department of Corrections, where he served with dedication until his second retirement.
James was a man of deep strength and loyalty, qualities best reflected in his 58-year marriage to his late wife, Lottie Mae Ranch. Together, they built a large and vibrant family that spans the globe.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lottie Mae Ranch; his mother, Lue Vean Anderson; his grandfather, Buddy Twilly; his grandmother, Arminther Hill, Martha Twilly; and his great-grandson, Adonis Delce.
James leaves behind a rich legacy through his children: five sons, James D. Ranch (Birgette) of Denmark, and Anthony Ranch, Orlando (Gina) Ranch, Kevin (Lily) Ranch, and Dayshilon Ranch, all of Texas; and four daughters, Patricia Ranch, Dawanna Hamilton, and Shanequa (Yarian) Calderon, all of Texas, and Terranetha Ranch of Colorado, his Aunt Doris Hardy, sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Services will be 10:00am Thursday October 1, 2026 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
