SFC (Ret.) Jesse Howard Brooks

He was raised and educated in Madison County. During his high school years, Jesse was an avid basketball player. After graduating from West High School in 1976, he joined the United States Army. Three short years after becoming a soldier, Jesse met and married Ms. Won Cha Kim in Korea.

Jesse and his new wife later welcomed two healthy baby boys into their lives, Maurice and Jesse. Jesse’s military career allowed his family to experience life in many different places to include Kentucky, North Carolina, Korea, Germany and Texas.

While proudly serving his Country for 22 years SFC (Ret.) Jesse Howard Brooks earned many military medals and awarded; such as the Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award) and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. After his military retirement, Jesse worked within the US Postal system for 15 years.

Jesse was also preceded in death by a sister Elo Anderson and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. Chong Su Kim and Mrs. Sun Ye Kim.

SFC (Ret.) Jesse Howard Brooks is survived by his wife Won Cha Brooks, sons; Maurice Brooks (Shatilya) and Jesse Brooks (Sheila), grandchildren; Jayson, Sierra, Serena, Lauren, Maurice and Faith.

He will also be missed by his siblings; Joan Marie Williamson, Willie Brooks (Bernice) , Vera Brooks, James Brooks and Yvonne Christie, uncles; Billie Godwin, Jerry Godwin and Richard G. Rooks, aunts; Heneritta Cobb, Alice Brooks and Christine Brooks, and a host of other cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 12:00 PM in the chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen. Burial will follow with full military honors in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
