JC was a good man, a great leader and mentor; and most of all was fair and consistent. They don’t make them like that much anymore.

JC was one of the best leaders and Bosses I have ever had while on Ft. Hood. Mr. Culver, Mr. Wesley, Mr. Volk and staff cared not only about the mission on the Installation, the safety of the soldiers and families in the community but the hard work and development of those assigned to the section as young men. We were a driven, focused, loyal hard working group of soldiers ( J. Shaffer, Richard Moss, James Thompson, M. Keegan and a couple others 87-89) - not only completing our mission but supporting the mission(s) of our sister Units, and their families.  I believe that this is a direct reflection the leadership provided by JC... RIP sir - God bless- you will forever remain in my heart and soiuld sir.


In a recent search I discovered that John had passed away some years back. JC was the lead warden at the Fort Hood Game Warden Office when I was assigned there in 1989. JC was the coolest... and I honestly think about him often. Upon my first meeting with JC, which I remember very clearly, he said “I will cover your butt if you mess up-every time, but, if you wreck my trucks your out of here .... but I’ll still cover you!“ I wrote about JC on my Face Book page and I hope if any of his family members  have the opportunity to read it - I’m certain they would enjoy it.  

John Culver was a good man and I’m sure he is missed by many.

J.C. was how we all knew him.  He was my training officer at the Harker Heights Police Department back in the 1980's.  I always admiried him and learned so much about policing and being a friend from him.  Here I am, 33 years later, still an officer and still remembering J.C. with a big smile on my face.  J.C. will be missed by those who were lucky enough to have known him and his family.

Thinking of you and Gloria today. Knowing you were much loved

John was tough as gunmetal yet, he had a heart big enough to cover any need of friend and family and he did so gladly. He was a patriotic and highly decorated warrior, a good father, husband, friend and brother. 
He and I shared a mutual passion for shooting sports and firearms in general. We spent many hours “chewing the fat” on the subject and often wound up either in a gun store or at the firing range or maybe both. We had a lot of laughs and good times. We were good friends and good company for each other. Claudia and I always enjoyed our times with John and Gloria. (‘Never a dull moment)!!
 
I have lost my “shootin' buddy but more than that, a beloved brother.

I will always have the memories of the times we had together to spawn some great stories about when we brothers were young together at ‘home' and many others about things we blundered through trying to become “old men” (the younger stuff was waaay easier).

A large hole exists where John stood in our lives and our family will miss him greatly. He left giant footprints and fond memories for all who knew him.
He has now been reunited with friends and family that passed on before him. He will never suffer or be troubled again. He now can and will rest in total peace.

But… knowing my brother…, more than likely he has already managed to confuse the Lord on more than one issue.., has found our Dad and already made him mad about something and, he's likely looking around for a cheap gun store!!

This man was the toughest guy i have ever meet. I counted him as my grandpa i loved him. I love the culver family. He fought for this country with honor and i respect him alot for that. He tought  me to never back down. It sucks to see him go and he will always be in my heart.

Papa John. I've taken your pride and wisdom with me through the years. I thank you so much for being such a good friend to me, my family, and everyone who knew you. You are a good man and a great friend. Its a sad day to see you leave but it is comforting to know you are with your maker.

I worked with John in 1989 when he was lead Game Warden and I was the Law Enforcement Officer at FT Hood.  He was such a dedicated Civil Servant, outstanding family man and good friend.  Prayers to his family.  He was a good man who made this country and this community better.
