

He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 7, 1940. His childhood surrounded by German & Norwegian culture instilled a lifelong passion for German things and he loved to speak about it with anyone who would listen. He proudly served in the U.S. Army retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 and was a member of DAV 29 earning award for outstanding service for Assistant Treasurer.
During his career in the US Army John was awarded the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service, Vietnam Service Medal, 4 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, among many others.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margit Grimme, his Father Vernon Earl Grimme, Mother Mamie Viola Wekkind, sister Shirley Joyce Olson (Grimme), brother Robert Grimme & nephew Cameron Olson. He is survived by his children Sharon Albany, David Grimme, Denise Clay (David) & Kevin Grimme (Brittney) along with grandchildren Tylar, Damian, Kali; Conrad; and Rylie & Kevin Jr.
A visitation for John will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 South Fort Hood Road, Killeen, TX.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home.
Committal service, with military honors will be on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX Highway 195, Killeen, TX.
