John "Johnny" Henry Ellis

Memorial services for John “Johnny” Ellis, 75, of Killeen, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Mr. Ellis died March 2, 2011, in Temple. He was born in Yazoo City, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alma, and his father, John Wesley Ellis.

Mr. Ellis retired from the U.S. Army in 1978.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lynda Thomson Ellis.

He had five brothers and three sisters. Of the siblings, one sister, Ira Jenkins of Magnolia, Miss., and one brother, Leslie Ellis of Baker, La., are still living. Other survivors include three sons, Homer (Ruby) Ellis of Jackson, La., David Ellis of Killeen, Devin (Genelle) of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Doris Kilgore of Fort Smith, Ark., and Joy Hughes; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethel Church Building Fund.
