Joyce W Blackman

Funeral services for Joyce Williams Blackman will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen with Reverend John Hallum officiating. Interment service will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Mrs. Blackman died February 29, 2016 in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 16, 1925, in Cuero, TX. She moved to San Antonio with her parents and brother. She graduated from Hot Wells High School in San Antonio in 1942, then received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Education from the University of Corpus Christi in 1951, and her Master’s Degree from Southwest Texas State University. She taught English at various schools in South Texas.

She married Richard Blackman in June of 1962 and moved with him to Killeen, Texas in 1976. She was an active member at Eastside Baptist Church in Killeen where she taught Sunday school. She was a beloved wife, mother, and sister.

Mrs. Blackman was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Williams; her mother, Gladys Ellard Williams; and her son Kenneth Blackman.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard Blackman and her son, Ronald Blackman, of Killeen, Texas; her brother, Whit Williams and his wife Patsy Williams of Colorado; and numerous cousins in South Texas.

The family requests that an honorarium be made to Eastside Baptist Church of Killeen, Texas in lieu of flowers.
