Mrs. Abiva died April 30, 2013, at her residence. She was born June 1, 1943, in San Narciso Zambales, Philippines.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Killeen and St. Paul Catholic Church in Harker Heights. She was a member of the Legion of Mary at St. Joseph Catholic Church and of the Retired Public School Teachers Association.
She was raised and educated in the Philippines where she earned a master’s degree in education from the Philippine Normal College. She rendered 29 years in the teaching profession in elementary, high school, and college, retiring as a school principal in 1992.
She was elected as a municipal councilor of San Narciso Zambales from 1995 to 2000. She also taught at St. Joseph Catholic School in Killeen from 2002 to 2004. She worked at Walmart in Harker Heights from March 2006 to June 2008.
Mrs. Abiva was preceded in death by her husband, Heginio Abiva; and her son, James Arthur Abiva.
Survivors include her son, Jerome Gerard of the Philippines; daughter, Cristelita Fuertes and her husband, Joel, of Harker Heights; two sisters, Consuelo Gaerlan and Virginia David of the Philippines; nine grandchildren, Justine Paz Abiva, Charmeine Abiva, James Ivan Abiva, John Carlo Abiva, Cathleen Joy Fuertes, Joel Christopher Fuertes, Anne Grace Abiva, Hendrix Abiva and Jen Jen Abiva.
Visitation with a rosary was held May 3, 2013, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
