Funeral Services for Kathryn “Katy” Louise Flores will be 10:00 AM Friday, October 25, 2019, at the First Baptist Church of Killeen, 3310 S. WS Young, Killeen. Private graveside services will be later Friday at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, Texas.
Katy was born on May 17, 1938 in Brownwood, Texas and passed away on October 13, 2019 in Round Rock, Texas. She was a beloved and loving wife, mother and daughter. She dearly loved the Lord, her family and her church.
She is survived by two sons, Page Flores and daughter Jenna Renee of Dallas, TX; and Lance Flores and wife, Cindy of Cedar Park, TX; two brothers, Ernest Weedon and wife Ann of Deer Park, TX; and Ferman Weedon, Jr. and wife Geneva of Harker Heights, TX; one sister LaNora Lashmit and husband Leonard of Mount Vernon, OH. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank N. Flores and parents Ferman Weedon and Lola Mae Weedon.
Katy graduated from Denton High School in Denton, TX in 1956 and from Howard Payne College in Brownwood, TX with a BA in Sociology then later returned to Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX to complete her teaching certification. She married Frank on August 21, 1959 and was married for 49 years before his death.
She loved teaching and working with children. She served as houseparent at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in Amarillo, TX and as houseparent and caseworker at the Rio Grande Children’s Home in Mission, TX. Her teaching career began at Gatesville State School for Boys in Gatesville, TX. She also taught school in San Saba, TX and Slaton, TX. In Killeen, she taught for three years at East Ward Elementary School and for 12 years at Cedar Valley Elementary. She taught the dyslexia students to believe they could succeed and loved being a part of the great changes and learning taking place in their lives. She retired from Killeen ISD in 2003 after 28 years of teaching.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Killeen where she faithfully taught the Rebekah Sunday School Class for 29 years. She was a member of Killeen Retired Teachers Association, Texas Retired Teachers Association and the International Dyslexia Association.
Visitation to be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen which is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Killeen Building Fund.
