Kumcho Chung

It is with gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Kumcho Chung, who departed this world peacefully in his sleep at his home on May 12, 2026. Born on December 26, 1941, in Korea, he was 84 years old.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Okja Chung, and their children, son-in-laws. grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.

Kumcho's journey began when he arrived in the United States, with dreams of giving a better life for his wife and children. He first made his mark as an artist selling his paintings and oil portraits at Fort Hood, capturing the beauty of life with every brushstroke. This artistic spirit was just the beginning of his multifaceted career.

Demonstrating remarkable business acumen, Kumcho later founded a sewing factory and invested in building shopping plazas. His entrepreneurial spirit continued with the operation of a laundromat and tire/oil change shop, each venture a stepping stone on his path to achieving the American dream.

His professional achievements were paralleled by his deep commitment to his community and faith. Kumcho served as an Elder at the Galilee Methodist Church, where his wisdom and guidance were cherished. He was instrumental in starting the Korean School, ensuring the preservation and celebration of his heritage. His leadership extended to his role as past president of the Korean Society and a board member for the Killeen Chamber of Commerce.

Kumcho's life was one of adventure and joy, enriched by his love for traveling, fishing, and golf. His hobbies were not mere pastimes; they were an extension of his zest for life and his appreciation for the world around him.

Despite facing the challenges of a language barrier, Kumcho's determination never wavered. He overcame each obstacle, embodying the very essence of perseverance. His story is one of triumph over adversity, a journey from humble beginnings to a life abundant in success and fulfillment. Kumcho's enduring legacy is built upon hard work, faith, and a love for his family and community.
