

In honor of Colonel Maylon Jerry Todd, a military service and burial will be Friday August 25, 2023, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen TX. Services begin at 10:00 am and we ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice in Colonel Todd’s honor.
Jerry was born on September 24, 1942, to Nell Dansby Todd and Maylon Percel Todd in Palestine Texas. He and his sister Andrea moved with Nell and her husband Aubrey Durrett to Ventura California at an early age. He graduated from Ventura High school in 1961, he was a standout athlete in Basketball and Football making All-District as a starting Guard and Quarterback for Ventura High. Jerry was voted “dreamboat” of his senior class in 1961. After graduation he married local beauty Joy Neary Todd in August 1961, and soon went off to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University. After graduating from Texas Tech, Jerry went on to attend Creighton University school of Dentistry where he earned a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. His senior year the Army paid him a visit, desperately in need of Dentists to serve in the Vietnam war the Army asked him to join. He put Endodontist school on hold to proudly serve his country and after 2 years in Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal, decided to make it his career. As promised, the Army paid for his continuing Education, so he enrolled in George Washington University in 1975 to become an Endodontist. The family embarked on the military life with stops that included Fort Monroe VA, Fort Lewis WA, Germany, Washington DC, Fort Polk LA, Schofield Barracks Oahu, Hawaii and Fort Hood, TX where he was Chief of the Dental Clinic.
Jerry retired from the Army in 1991 to teach Dentistry. He began teaching at the University of Mississippi and later moved to the University of West Virginia where he became the Dean of the Dental School. After his teaching career he moved back to Texas to begin private practice in Houston where he met and married longtime friend and coworker, Vera Dykes Todd. Living in Houston Jerry retired in 2001 and started enjoying a wonderful life with Vera, his children, and grandchildren. Jerry’s biggest passion was golf, but he loved traveling, cruises and being able to enjoy his entire family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Nell Dansby Durrett and Maylon Percel Todd and his first wife Joy Neary Todd. Survived by his daughter Holly Todd Shelden and her husband Sam Shelden, Tyler Todd and wife Laura Todd, grandchildren Lexi Primeaux, Lindsey Primeaux, Peyton Primeaux, Dawson Todd, and Braxton Todd. His sister Andrea Pendleton and husband James F. Pendleton, nephew Todd Pendleton, his children Aubrey Russel and husband Ernie, Mason Pendleton and wife Kate, nephew Brian Pendleton and wife Arne, and their children Jimmy and Luke. His wife Vera and her children Stan Dykes and wife Rebecca, their daughter Melissa Schneider and husband Taylor, their children Wren and Olea, Son Brent and wife Georgia and grandson Bear. Steve Dykes and wife Jan, grandchildren Kyle and wife Emily, Lacey Dykes Martin and husband David, and great grandchildren Leo Dykes, Ellie and Colbie Martin. His best friends Bill and Zena Fowler, Ray and Nancy Asay, and second wife Ida Baty and son Marvin Baty.
