Michael Roy Baumann, Sr. passed from this life into his forever home, fishing and golfing with God on December 7, 2023. Mike had a way of including everyone in his life. His sense of humor drew people in, and no one was safe from being the butt of his jokes. As his own children moved out on their own, their friends still sought Mike out and visited with him listening to his unending stories of his experiences that were hilarious. Many a time he could be found watching TV with these kids or reveling them with more stories.
He entered this world on October 27, 1948 at a scrawny 4 pounds to his parents Henri Daune and Friederich William Baumann. He grew through their great love and his Mom’s cooking to a whopping 6’4’’ and 270 pounds.
Mike married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Susan Keefe Baumann. They celebrated 54 years together and had their vows renewed on their 50th wedding anniversary.
Three sons, their wives, and his grandchildren took up the rest of the love in his heart.
He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and hunter in his day. The Cowboys, Rangers, and Dallas Stars had one very devoted and loud fan. In the past few years as his body tired from his earthly journey, fishing continued to give him an outlet for fun. Mike was the founder of The Copperas Cove Bass Club in 1970. He enjoyed the tournaments and camaraderie of these wonderful people. If not for club member Ron Hite, Mike would have had to forego fishing this past year. Ron and his wife Josie made sure Mike could get in and out of the boat and that he was well nourished during those days. The club members even changed club tournament dates to fit Mike’s non-dialysis days.
Mike leaves behind his wife, Susan and his three favorite sons, Michael (Alice), Blake (Kim), Riley (Charlotte), his precious grandchildren, Les Baumann, Brooke Baumann, Mikayla Rodi, Madeline Baumann, Mikhael Rodi, Jonathon Baumann, Jackson Baumann, Scarlett Baumann, Abigail Manas, his loving sister Edie Cooper (Charles), his best friend, cousin Gerald Wayne McKee, nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends who meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sue Baumann Niemann.
Mike proudly served his community through TRS the past 40 years.
Mike loved the Lord and talked to Him often. He believed in God, love, family, BigFoot and UFO’s.
In his memory, introduce a child to the joys of fishing.
