Nicolas Damian Diaz Jr.

Retired SFC Nicolas Damian Diaz Jr. passed away on Sunday February 19, 2012 at his home in Killeen, TX surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 9, 1955 in Santa Rita, Guam one of five children to Nicolas T. Diaz and Vera R. (Damian) Diaz.

Retired SFC Diaz joined the US Army in 1976 and quickly moved through the ranks. During his Military career, he was awarded many medals and ribbons to include: an Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, six Army Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, a Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon w/Numeral three, an Army Service Ribbon, four Overseas Service Ribbons and an Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge w/Rifle Bar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Nicolas T. Diaz and Vera R. (Damian) Diaz; and two of his sisters; Cecilia V. Diaz and Julie C. Diaz.

Retired SFC Nicolas Damian Diaz Jr. will forever live in the hearts of his seven children; Nicolas D. Diaz II and his wife Rebecca of Texas; Kevin Diaz Sr. of California; Christopher Diaz Sr. and his wife Helen of Texas; Cheryl Diaz Singleton and her husband Darrin of Texas; Irvin Diaz Sr. and his wife Felicia of Texas; Cecilia Diaz and Joaquin Diaz both of Texas.

Also to cherish his memories will be fourteen grandchildren; Anthony, Haleena , Mailani, Casandra, Kevin Jr., Chrisha, Christopher Jr., Caleb, Tavina, Tavon, Tarrin, Irvin Jr., Annalysia and I’Napu.

He will be missed dearly by his sisters; Dorothy Diaz Rivera and her husband Edwin of Texas and Pacita Diaz McCall and her husband Bobby of North Carolina.

The Diaz family will receive guest for a time of visitation Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen, with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. Mass of a Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 24, 2012 beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial with full Military honors will be held in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery following the Mass.
