Oscar Lee "Joe" Grice Jr.

Born January 1, 1945 in Marion, South Carolina, to the late Hannah Norman and the late Oscar Lee Grice Sr., he graduated from Johnakin High School in Marion, South Carolina in 1964. Oscar joined the U.S Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam. In 1968 he married Emma Williams. The two had one child together, Anthony Tyrone Grice, and later divorced.

In 1975, while stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, he met Sonia Ricketts. The two were married in 1977 and later had two children. In 1986, Oscar retired from the U.S. Army, having attained the rank of Sargent First Class (E-7). After retiring from the U.S. Army, Oscar worked as Commercial Equipment Operator, with the City of Killeen’s Solid Waste Division until his retirement in 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Sonia Grice of Killeen, Texas, his son, Anthony Tyrone Grice of Colombia, South Carolina, his daughter Tamika (Tami) Martin of San Salvador, El Salvador, his son Jeremy Grice of Killeen, Texas, his sister Rosa Mae Grice of Mount Vernon, New York, his brother Willie Grice of Lebanon, Illinois, his sister Hazel Ellis of Killeen, Texas as well as five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Geraldine Grice, Robert Grice, Dorothy Grice and Walter Grice, all of Marion, South Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, July 7th, 2014 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home at 1615 South Fort Hood Street in Killeen, Texas. Burial will follow at 11 AM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home on Sunday, July 6th, 2014 from 6-8 PM for visitation.
