A Celebration of Life service will be held for Patricia A. Lockridge Shannon (Pat) on 9/26/2026, 11:00 a.m., First Baptist Church - Killeen, Texas.
Pat passed away on August 24, 2026 at St. Joseph Hospital, Bryan, TX and will be interred with her husband at the Killeen City Cemetery, Killeen, TX. Pat was born on December 8, 1931 in Menard, TX to Oscar Young and Azalea Estelle Spurlock Lockridge.
After graduating from Goldthwaite High School in 1949, Pat attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) and to pay room, board, and tuition worked a daily “6-hour duty”. The generosity of numerous families from Goldthwaite enabled her to stay and finish her degree in 1953. It was while she was at UMHB she met her husband, John Shannon, her “lifetime romance”. They were married on August 15, 1953 at First Baptist Church, Goldthwaite, Texas. In her own words “UMHB was the best thing that ever happened to me after accepting Christ as Savior and marrying John Shannon”.
Pat enjoyed a nomadic life. As a child she lived in Cleo, TX; Nix, TX; Caradan, TX; and Goldthwaite, TX, where she accepted Christ as her savior in 1947. After Pat and John married, they lived in Belton, Goldthwaite, Graham, and Killeen, Texas. They also lived in Salina, Kansas but Killeen was always home and they moved back to Killeen after briefly residing in Midland, TX. In 1966 the 4.5-year magical adventure of her life occurred when the entire family moved to Orleans, France for a year; Mannheim, Germany for a year; and then to Bremerhaven, Germany. In 1970 the family returned to Killeen and she spent the next 48 years there before moving to Bryan for the remainder of her days.
Some of the highlights of her life included: serving on the board of trustees of UMHB for 19 years; being an active member of First Baptist Church, Killeen (where she taught Sunday School, was a Girls Auxiliary leader and worked with the Senior Adults) and being an elementary school teacher for 33 years. Her years as a teacher and service at First Baptist Church allowed her to have an impact on countless lives.
Pat is survived by her three children and their spouses: Patsy Shannon Deere and husband Donald of College Station, Texas; John H. Shannon Jr. and wife Cheri of College Station, Texas; and Patrick Shannon and wife Judy of McKinney, Texas. Five grandchildren and spouses: Derek Deere and wife Kirby; Dustin Deere and wife Shelby; Dawson Deere; Joshua Shannon; and Noah Shannon and one great grandchild, Madison Deere. She is also survived by one brother, Tom Lockridge and wife Anna Kay, and one sister, Joy Shrum and husband Ronny.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John H. Shannon, her parents, two grandchildren, 3 sisters and one brother.
