

Payton was born on September 3, 1938, in the Brookhaven Community to Claude and Juanita Duncan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zona, parents, Claude and Juanita, and brother, Jessie.
A man of deep faith, Payton lived a life grounded in Christian values and devoted to God. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Killeen since 1957 and found great joy in serving his church community. His unwavering faith in Christ was evident in his faithfulness, kindness, humility, and the way he loved and cared for those around him.
He graduated from Killeen High School in 1957 where he was involved in FFA. He was enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1958 - 1962 with his final assignment on the U.S.S. Ranger. After the Navy, he became a letter carrier and retired after 33 years.
Payton was loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and a cherished friend. He married Zona Ann Husung on July 6, 1963, at Memorial Baptist Church. Together they raised a family rooted in faith. He was a proud father of Teri and Rebecca and a beloved grandfather. He found much joy in spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Teri (Chris) Hawkins and Rebecca (Bob) Maindelle, his grandchildren Annie (Steven) Darst, Grace (Allen) Kirkpatrick, and Mattie (Ben) Adams, his great-grandchildren Payton, Elizabeth, Autry, Audrey, Norah and coming soon, Silas, and his brother, Kenneth Wayne Duncan.
A celebration of Payton's life and faith will be held on Tuesday, March 4th a Memorial Baptist Church, 4001 Trimmier Rd. in Killeen at 2pm with visitation beginning at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Memorial Baptist Church, Killeen.
We take comfort in knowing that Payton is now with his Savior in Heaven, where he is experiencing eternal peace. His legacy of faith, love and devotion to others will continue to inspire all who knew him.
