M. Wheeler English.
Philip loved skiing and cooking. As a boy, he was a member of the Boy Scouts. He graduated in
1961 from Eldorado High School.
On April 10, 1964, Philip enlisted in the US Army. He retired as a CW3 on May 31,1986. During his
faithful service, he served two tours in Vietnam and received many medals, including Vietnam
Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Master Army Aviator Badge, Meritorious Unit
Commendation, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star.
A cherished part of his story is the dog, Thunder, he brought back from Vietnam, a loyal companion
who held a special place in his heart. He often joked that the details were classified, saying, “If I tell
you, I’ll have to kill you,” a testament to his playful spirit, but I think he was serious!!!
He retired again as a chief test pilot at DynCorp after leaving the Army.
He married Mona Tharp in 1969 in Mineral Wells, Texas. Together, they had four children, Clint,
Donnie, Stephanie and Jeanette.
In his final days, he longed to return to the country home he shared with his late wife. Each room
held echoes of their laughter and love, a sanctuary of cherished memories. As he stepped into the
familiar space, he felt her presence in the gentle rustle of leaves and the warmth of the setting sun.
It was here, surrounded by the essence of their life together, that he wished to find peace and
reunion in spirit. Mr. English passed away on November 9, 2024, at his home in Thorndale, Texas.
Philip was preceded in death by his wife, Mona S. English on December 22, 2009, a son, Donald
Lynn English on June 20, 1998, and a daughter, Jeanette Bryer on October 24, 2014, and a brother,
Steven English.
