Ray Gonzales

Born on May 23, 1949, in Austin, TX. He lived a full and meaningful life rooted in family, hard work, and service to others.

Ray graduated from Killeen High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force. He went on to become a proud business owner in the 1980s, operating El Toro Restaurant in Killeen, where he built lasting relationships within the community. He later dedicated 33 years of service to Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, where he was respected for his commitment and strong work ethic. From 2006 to 2009 he worked in Iraq as an inspector for the Department of Defense.

Ray was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He found great joy in fishing, especially travelling to the coast for surf fishing. He also enjoyed relaxing with a cold Budweiser and spending time with those he loved. Known for his generous heart, Ray loved helping others, especially feeding the homeless and giving back to his community whenever he could.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Sandate and her husband Tony; his son, Raoul Gonzales and his wife Angelica; his grandchildren, Ricky Martinez( Monica), Christopher Martinez(Alexis), Michael Gonzales, and Layla Gonzales; and his great-grandchildren, Jaxon Stoddard, Jett Martinez, Elijah Gonzales, Isaiah Gonzales, and Emma Martinez. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Julia Gonzales, and his brothers, Robert and Rudy Gonzales.

Ray will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, strength, and generosity will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 S Fort Hood St, Killeen, Texas 76542, on May 7, 2026, from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm, with the Service at the same location on May 7, 2026, at 7:00 pm.

A Committal Service with Honors will take place at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas 76542, on May 8, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
