A memorial service for 1st Sgt (Ret) USA, Robert Wayne Starks, 95, of Killeen, TX will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Killeen, TX on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 10am officiated by Rev. Robert Miller.
Mr. Starks passed away at Rosewood Care Center on Friday, May 24, 2013.
He was born in Cooper, Texas on November 17, 1917 to Robert Lee and Georgia Amanda Starks.
He served in WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy at Leyte Province, Philippine Islands. He also received a WWII Victory Medal. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1960 and worked for U.S. Civil Service until his retirement in 1983. He married Anna Tripeny Starks on December 23, 1950.
Mr. Starks was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Anna; brothers, Leonard Starks, Fisher Starks, and sisters, Inez Slough, Margaret Tedder and Billie June Van Blaricum.
He is survived by daughters Mary Starks Lindsley and her husband, Jerry, of Chester, VT; Maggie Starks Hatley of Killeen, TX; and Linda Starks Cyr and her husband, Mike, of Fairfax Station, VA; grandchildren, Cpl. Sean Lindsley of Camp LeJeune, NC, Brooke Lindsley of Stowe, VT and Bryce T. Cyr of Fairfax Station, VA; sister Bobbie Ruth Baker, sister-in-law Billie Jo Starks, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Starks was a member of the Killeen Evening Lions Club, Shriners International and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a Texas Lions Camp for Children Century Club Third Generation Key Holder and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow award for the dedicated humanitarian services from the Lions Club International Foundation.
