Ruth Moon

Ruth was born on September 19, 1946 to Marjorie Merrill and Jack Hemingway. She was raised by her grandparents, John and Eudosia Merrill, on their dairy farm in Brownsville, Texas.

Ruth married the love of her life, Thomas Moon (of San Benito, Texas), on April 26, 1974. They began their lives together in Brownsville, and in 1988, started their new chapter in San Antonio. In 2025, after thirty-seven years in San Antonio, Ruth and Thomas moved to Killeen, Texas to be closer to their children. Their lives were filled with boundless joy, two beautiful children, the best dogs anyone could ask for, and an abundance of love.

Following a successful career as a legal secretary, Ruth chose to step away to devote her time to family and volunteer work. During her time in San Antonio, she served her community by volunteering at her daughter’s school and at the Warm Springs Rehabilitation Center for People with Disabilities. She and her husband also volunteered at their church, Northwest Hills Baptist Church, and spent years helping with the church’s food pantry.

As a Polio survivor, Ruth was passionate about helping others in her community. She collaborated with fellow survivors and medical professionals through Warm Springs and established the San Antonio Post-Polio Survivors Association. For years, the group provided educational resources, support, and fellowship for Post-Polio Syndrome survivors and their families in the San Antonio area.

Ruth was a loving and devoted mother. She was present for every milestone and fanned the flames of her children’s passions. She was a perpetual source of strength and encouragement. She loved her children fiercely, and nothing brought her more happiness or pride than watching them grow into the people they are today.

Ruth and her husband Thomas were blessed with fifty-two years of marriage. They were side by side through loss and celebration alike, and demonstrated to their children, family, and all who knew them, what it looks like to deeply and genuinely love another soul.

Ruth is dearly loved and will be profoundly missed.

Ruth was preceded in death by her grandparents; her mother and father; stepfather, Bill Park; aunts, Dora and Annie Merrill; and dear friend, Paulita Younger.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Moon; son, Chuck Moon; daughter, Amber Moon (Daniel Phillips); siblings, Ronnie Park (Murna), Don Eddie Moore (Christine), Randy Park (Sandra), and Candy Park; cousin and dear friend, Marjorie Faye Moon; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 2nd at 11:00 AM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 S Fort Hood St, Killeen, Texas. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. Family and friends may visit with the family at Crawford-Bowers on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
