

Shirley Roy Thomas Jr. was born on May 12, 1951 to Shirley Roy Thomas Sr. and Iris Lovaine (Stephens) Dillon in Newport News, VA. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was a loyal and outspoken member of Greater Vision Community Church.
He graduated high school from Huntington High School in 1969. He joined the U.S. Army in 1970. While in the military he received several accommodations such as: the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal and several more. Bro. Thomas and his family traveled all over the world enjoying various countries, cultures and creative experiences. He retired from the military after 22 years of service in 1996. Bro. Thomas’ last job was working for Engineering Solutions and Product Inc. (ESP) that gave him additional opportunities to travel the world, which he loved.
In his spare time, Bro. Thomas’ favorite activity was Chess. He played Chess with his father-in-law, James Crane Jr. and his nephew, Godfrey Plunkett every chance he could get. He also loved grandmas (Bootsy) liver and onions. He was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in February of 2003. Roy did not let the cancer stop him from loving the Lord and living his life to its fullest. He departed this life into paradise on March 10, 2015 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, TX.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his soulmate, Tracy Yvette of Killeen, TX; his only son, James Roy of Killeen, TX; five daughters: TaVette (Lester) Brunson of Decatur, GA, Kamila Johnson of Washington DC, Tracie (Greg) Thomas-Montgomery of Newport News, VA, Kim Thomas of Newport News, VA and Kierra Williams of Keysville, GA; his father, Shirley Roy (Mae) Thomas Sr. of Newport News, VA; a sister, Juanita L. Thomas-Gainey of Newport News, VA; step-brother, Mario Henley of Newport News, VA; nine grandchildren: Rodrick Campbell, JaShawn Thomas, Jahniya Thomas, JaQuavian Thomas, Lester Brunson, Taylen Brunson, Jaxon Montgomery, Kemori Williams and Jase Montgomery and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, close friends and the family pets.
He is preceeded in death by his mother, Iris Lovaine (Joseph) Dillon and his sister, Latoya (wee wee) Thomas. From the time he was here on earth he has shown unconditional love to everyone and he will truly be missed.
A time of visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 for 11:00 am at Greater Vision Community Church, Pastor David Reynolds will be officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
