Song Ja Mayo

October 9, 1931November 5, 2018

On November 5, 2018 our mom, Song Ja Moon Mayo, 87, of Killeen entered into the presence of our Lord and Savior as she joined our “Pops”, Retired Master Sergeant Alfred George Mayo, in the Kingdom of Heaven. She has been reunited with her daughter, Grace Song Mayo and daughter in law, Susan Mayo. Others awaiting her arrival were her parents, Chang Do and Chang Nyo Moon along with her siblings. She was born October 9, 1931 in North Korea. Her life was surely an adventure before and after she met and married Pops in January of 1950. After gaining citizenship in the United States she and Pops had six children and lived in Kentucky, Missouri, Germany, Kansas and finally settled in to call Texas home. Ladened with a heavy accent, her language barrier didn’t keep those outside of our family from feeling her love for them. Whether it was a monetary gift or the sharing of a meal, she was a lover of people and a giver of self. She was a strong, Spirit-filled, prayer warrior that spread the love of Christ. Simply put, our mom was THE BEST! She loved us without condition. She trained us up into the individuals we are today. Her love was larger than life and she will be deeply missed. Yet because of how she lived, loved and her faith in Jesus Christ, we have comfort knowing we will see her again. Our mom lived an abundant, joy-filled life here on earth. She was a loyal wife, loving mother and a cherished grandma who followed the Lord faithfully. Let us strive to love Jesus and serve Him just as she did. Leaving behind a legacy to be carried on by her children and their spouses, Becky and Leo Free, George and Patty Mayo, Eugene and Laura Mayo, Patricia Ann (Mayo) and Joel Ray Barton, and Alfred George Mayo Jr. Her grandchildren, Joshua Free, Alfred G Mayo III and wife Claire, Dr. Jason Mayo and wife Audrey, Megan Mayo, Lauren Mayo, Hope Mayo, Shawnette Song, Gracie Lorenzo, Melodie Garman and husband Will, Jasmine Crowell and husband Joshua, Adam Mayo, Hunter Mayo, Shepherd Mayo, Brittany Mayo, Morgan Mayo, Trinity Mayo, Emeri Mayo, Lindsey Emmons, Taylor Bradberry, Bailey Emmons, Riese Perry, Hailey Perry, Rachel Barton, Abigail Webb and husband D’andre, Jake Mayo and wife Jessica, Seth Mayo, Luke Mayo, Sam Mayo, Max Mayo and Song Mayo. Her great grandchildren Champ, Maverick, Jase, Sydney, Riley, Gabe, Isabelle, Haley, Jade, Tatum, Brodyn, Victoria, Karysma, Isaac, Kyle, Chloe and Paisley. Our family would like to thank all who have, will and continue to lift us in prayer during this time. “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43 Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday, November 9th, at the funeral home with the burial to follow at 10:00 am at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery located at 11463 HWY 195, Killeen Texas.

Grandma Mayo was always the most welcoming, loving woman! She was like my second grandma while hanging out with Hope and Lauren. I’ll never forget her yummy bulgolgi!! She’ll be forever missed.

Mrs. Mayo was one of the sweetest ladies I knew while serving in Killeen, Texas. I love your sons and daughters. All demonstrated love and compassion to me and my family. The Reese family express our deepest condolences to the family and communicate our prayers for them in the days ahead.

I met Grace Mayo and Mrs. Mayo in 1969 when we first moved to Texas and lived in Venable Village. Gracie and I were so excited as we quickly realized we both had Korean moms and proceeded to introduce them to each other immediately! Six Mayo kids and five of us ... the beginning of a 49 year family friendship! My mom visited Mrs. Mayo just 10 days ago and they held hands for the last time.. Ajima... you were always my favorite Ajima ... kiss Gracie for me.. 😢💕🙏🏼

Ms.Song, was beautiful soul. The first time we met her she made us feel right at home. Ms.Song gave us a beautiful mink blanket that we have on our bed to this day. Rest in peace. Praying for the family. Daniel and Becky Kegley
