It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vincent Fernandez Jr., a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world peacefully on April 29, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on July 19, 1945, in Houston, Texas, Vincent’s remarkable journey through life was marked by his love of God, unwavering spirit, immense love for family, and a sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.
Vincent was the cherished son of Vincent and Emma Fernandez. He grew up in a large family, surrounded by the laughter of his brothers and sisters, including Richard, Raymond, Hilda, and Linda. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers—Joe, Archie, and Edward—and he also mourns the loss of his stepson Robert Coble, as well as several aunts and uncles. Despite the heartache of these losses, Vincent found joy in the family that remained close to him, including his loving wife, Kathy, with whom he shared 29 beautiful years of marriage. Their love story began in Galveston, where they met, and their bond continued to flourish throughout the years
Vincent's passion for service led him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps in May 1969 during the Vietnam Era, where he served as a rifleman. His dedication and commitment were recognized through the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, symbols of his courage and resilience during a challenging time in our nation’s history. After his military service, Vincent became a skilled carpenter, known for his versatility and talent as a true jack-of-all-trades. He often reminisced about his childhood, sharing stories of selling newspapers and sugar cane and shining shoes to support his family. His work ethic was admirable, and he instilled these values in all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Vincent was not just defined by his work; he found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, passionate about the thrill of the catch, and he enjoyed the excitement of playing the slot machines. Even into his later years, he could often be found dominating the pool table, showcasing his competitive spirit and love for friendly rivalry. Above all, Vincent was known for his one-of-a-kind personality; he had the unique ability to be serious when needed but was always the jokester, delighting everyone with his witty jokes and infectious laughter.
He leaves behind not only his devoted wife, Kathy, but also a large extended family that includes brothers Richard and Raymond, sisters Hilda and Linda, and stepchildren Martha, Janie, James, Crystal, and Amanda, along with numerous grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Each of them carries a piece of Vincent’s spirit within them, a testament to his love and impact on their lives.
In this time of grief, we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to Amanda, whose unwavering support and love for Vincent were truly remarkable. Vincent loved you more than you will ever know, and your efforts did not go unnoticed.
