Mr. McGinnis passed away, Friday, January 4, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 25, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri to Elsie C. Michler and Steven F. McGinnis.
Wayne proudly served his country for thirty years. At eighteen, he left Kansas to join the Marine Corp and saw action in the Korean War. After leaving the Marines he joined the Army, serving three tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. His military career took him to various posts in both the US and Europe.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clair and Nolan, and sister, Nadine, his first wife of 30 years, Bonnie (Brown) and two daughters Vicki Dye and Debbie Lanham.
He is survived by his wife Mary, of Harker Heights; son, Douglas of Killeen; daughters, Paula Dye of Oklahoma and Jackie of Washington State; grandson, Cody of Killeen, stepsons, Scott Alberts of Kenosha, WI, and Patrick Alberts of Cheyenne, WY, plus numerous other relatives and friends. He also had his special four legged companions, Cinder, Sassee, and Shiloh, who were always by his side.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warriors, the USO, or Second Chance Animal Shelter.
