

born in Los Angeles, CA, to the late Vera May and William H Brady. The military brought him and his
family to Killeen, Texas where roots were laid in 1974.
Bill graduated from high school in Montebello, CA in 1961. That same year he enlisted in the US Army.
After basic training at Ft Ord, CA and AIT at Ft Gordon, GA, he enjoyed communications assignments in
Louisiana, Vietnam, California and Germany. Commissioned through OCS at Ft Benning, GA in Aug
1968, 2LT Brady completed Airborne, Special Forces and language enroute to 1st SFG(Abn)in Okinawa.
His tour was curtailed after one year. He attended Ranger training enroute to 5th SFG (Abn)Vietnam.
He commanded A244 (Ben Het) and later the RECON Co, CCS, MACV-SOG, where he was the last
American commander. Upon return to the United States, he had assignments to Ft Benning,
Monterey, CA, 2nd 10 in Korea and at Ft Hood, TX. While assigned to the lCD, he commanded Co A,
1-5 (Mech)and deployed to Germany with the unit on Brigade 76. He retired as a Major, completing
his military career as an organizational effectiveness staff officer in the 2AD. His awards include 2
Bronze Stars w/V device,2 Air Medals, MSM, ARCOM, CIB, parachute badge and Ranger tab. He was a
graduate of the Infantry Officer Advance Course and the Command and General Staff College. He held
a BA in International Economics from the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies and a MS in
Management from American Technological University.
He entered civil service in May 1984 as a Military Test Plans Analyst assigned to the Unit Manning
(COHORT) experiment sponsored by the DA DCSPER. Ultimately, that organization was absorbed into
TCATA and he worked numerous tests. Promoted to Division Chief in 1991 and assigned to C2TD. He
retired December 22, 2010 so he could enjoy time with his family and travel.
He married the former, Maria Hernandez, on June 13, 1964. Having known each other since they were
youngsters and next door neighbors, they were able to share a lifetime of unforgettable experiences and
the kind of love that will last forever.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maria, children Christopher and his wife Cindi of San Luis Obispo,
CA, Molly and her husband Coby Oathout of Harker Heights, William and his wife Peggy of Norco, CA,
son Gerald of Killeen, five grandchildren, he loved dearly, Ryan, Alicia, Caitlin, Jack and Jesse, and two
sisters Vera May Benjamin of Petaluma, CA and Ann R. Padilla of Oracle, AZ.
Visitation and rosary will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8pm.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday at 1:30pm followed by burial at the
Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
