OBITUARY

Betty Lou Harrison

February 4, 1937April 25, 2019

Betty Lou King was born February 4 1937 in Bethel Springs, TN to parents James Hughie King & May Ottie King. She had one brother, James Elvon and two sisters, Mary Elsie & Willie Marie.

Betty grew up in the small town of Bethel Springs, TN. Her older sister Marie loved to sing and perform. Betty was a little shy, but Marie talked her into singing with her and their cousin Nancy. Betty would join in singing the high parts and had a natural talent for harmony. The three of them sang all the time for friends and neighbors, at parties and on the local radio station. Once they even sang for Elvis Presley’s original manager. Betty met Robert Harrison when she was sixteen years old. They dated for three years and were married on January 10th 1957. Later that year, they welcomed their first son, Terry. Five years later, they welcomed their second son, Rick.

During their 33 years of marriage, Betty and Robert travelled and lived in 14 different states, eventually settling in Houston, TX in December 1976. She began working for Marshall’s in 1988, and continued until her death. She loved her job and thought of her co-workers as her second family.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, her brother Elvon and her sisters Elsie and Marie.

She is survived by her son Terry and his wife Laura, her son Ricky and his wife Myrtle, three grandchildren - Matthew, Diana and Ricky and their spouses Emily, Bubba and Selena, five great-grandchildren – Matthew, Farrah, Eli, Destiny and Ivery, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Betty is my great aunt. I remember when I was very little and being in Houston and going to her house and she was making pig ears for uncle Robert. She was so sweet. She was there for us when my granddaddy Zane passed away. I know you are at peace now. Rest In Peace.

I have such fond memories of precious Betty Lou Harrison. She was a kind spirit, had such joy and was easy to talk to. I loved to hear her stories. Her smile would light up a room. Betty loved Jesus and sang his praises with her beautiful voice. As long as I knew her, she had so much energy and was always busy doing for others. I know she is singing with the angels in Glory. I am blessed having known you sweet sister.

Rest in peace.

I loved my Aunt Betty. I have such wonderful memories of her when I was growing up. I remember her making those blankets with the little girls on them and drawing for me and making me fried toast. She was such a beautiful, glamorous young lady. I thought she looked like a movie star. I will miss her!

I remember Aunt Betty holding me on her lap and singing to me and making me paper dolls. She was forever telling me what a terror I was when I was little but I always knew how much she loved me. I will really miss her.
