

She was born on April 18th, 1928, in New York City, New York; she was the daughter of the late Carrie Joseph and Napoleon Taylor. On September 14th 1947 she married Arnold Alexander Powell who has preceded her in death. From this union were born three children, Gregory G. Powell and Yolanda Alexandria Allman nee Powell. And John Andrew Powell who died at childbirth.
She graduated from Yorkville Vocational HS, in New York, New York in 1947, with special certification in Beauty Culture. Over the many years Mrs. Powell excelled in attaining certifications and training to reach higher goals and provide better opportunities for her family. Some of those positions include:
• Nurse’s aide at Goldwater Memorial Hospital, Roosevelt Island, New York.
• Manager of the book department in E.J. Korvette retail store, Staten Island, N.Y.
• Administrative Secretary in the Brooklyn Family Court, Brooklyn, N.Y.
• Lead supervisor for medical transcription for the Veterans Administration, New York, N.Y. She retired from this position and working, in July, 1990.
Mrs. Powell lived her life to the fullest; she took joy in celebrating life’s events by entertaining her friends and family. She loved gardening, and cooking, where she was known for her sumptuous meals and her back yard Barbeques. She also loved interior decorating for which her home lays testament to her own creative styles.
In 1991, she made the decision to move to Humble Texas to be closer to both of her children, here she watched as the next generations of her family continue to sprout. She also began collecting figurines, and created many beautiful sceneries.
Mrs. Powell has been a devout member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church of Humble Texas for many years.
She is survived by a son Gregory Powell (Aleczina) of Kingwood Texas, and a daughter Yolanda Allman of Humble Texas.
Grandchildren – Shakira(Mark),Aiesha(Byron),Rashaad, Monique, Jihad, Alex, Ayana, Bill and Chris.
Great Grandchildren – Imani, Malik, Khalil, and little Miles.
Sister –in – Law - Floria Powell of Chesapeake Va.
Son –in-Law - Raymond Allman.
A host of Nieces, Nephews and friends.
Her most dearest and cherished friends for over 60 years:
Mrs. Louetta Harvey, her friend of 75 years.
Mrs. Daphne Williams, her friend of 64 years.
Mrs. Ruth Frazier, her friend of 63 years.
