

Dixie Ann Harris Foster, born Feb. 25, 1930 in Dallas, Texas to Elmor and Annie (Cox) Harris, passed away on Dec. 16, 2009 in Humble, Texas. A 1947 graduate of Sunset High School, she married William N. Foster of Dallas on Oct. 28, 1950. Through Bill's work, the family made their home in Dallas, Overland Park, KS, Elk Grove, IL, Tulsa, OK, and Littleton, CO before settling in Kingwood in 1978. Dixie obtained her real estate license and embarked on a new career selling residential properties. She was a member of the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce, the Kingwood Area Republican Women's Club, the Lady Houston Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Colonial Dames, and was former president of the Kingwood Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Governor Ann Richards commissioned her as "A Yellow Rose of Texas" in 1991, awarded to those who distinguish themselves as selfless, caring, and committed to improving the State of Texas. She was active in the Kingwood Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, as an elder, sunday school teacher, and member of the choir. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and Bill, her husband of 57 years. Dixie is survived by daughter Lurie McAdow and husband Lewis of Houston, son William N. Foster III and wife Jana of Mesquite, and beloved grandchildren William N. Foster IV, Katherine Lynne Foster, and Lewis H. McAdow IV. A memorial service will be held Wed. Dec. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Kingwood Christian Church, 3910 West Lake Houston Pkwy, Kingwood, TX 77339. Rev. Renee Hoke will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kingwood Christian Church Scholarship Fund.
