Don was born in Flint, Michigan on October 14, 1939. Later, his family relocated to California where, in Junior High School, he met Elizabeth "Betty" Orr. Throughout their time at Phineas Banning High School the two dated and went on to marry shortly after graduation.

It was here that the couple was blessed with two children, Donald K. Allen and Jennifer L Allen. Don started work as a drafter before moving up to becoming a mechanical engineer. His career brought him and his family to Kingwood, Texas in 1979. And even after retirement, Don's strong work ethic continued on when he started a print shop business.
Don was a true family man, he enjoyed spending his time with his wife and children and making treasured memories with them. A favorite activity being the family camping trips he would take everyone on. Don was never shy about volunteering his time for his kids. He loved cars, and would spend countless hours with his son working on and repairing them. Many of his weekends were spent coaching his kids in soccer and basketball and refereeing soccer games.
Later in life Don also found joy by spending his time doing volunteer work and keeping busy in his wood shop.
Don was preceded in death by his son Donald K Allen in February of 2004 and by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Ann Orr Allen in August of 2010.
