He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia, brothers Richard Wood, David Wood and his parents of Rochester, New York.
Ernie was a long time member of Kingwood United Methodist Church. He graduated from Webster High School in upstate New York in 1949 where he served as senior class president and earned a spot on the All-County Football team his senior year. In 1951 he enlisted in the Air Force and spent 4 years in Washington, DC; Warrenton, VA; Boise, ID and Miho, Japan.
In 1951 he also married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Pat. Upon return to Rochester, New York he resumed his career at Eastman Kodak and studies at The University of Rochester. His career with Kodak sent him to Atlanta, GA and then to Houston, TX where he was District Sales Manager for Graphic Markets. He retired from Kodak in 1986 and started a second career with Friendswood Development Company selling custom new homes in Kingwood, retiring in 1997.
Ernie was an avid reader, loved puzzles and games, music, hunting, sailing and playing tennis at Kingwood Country Club, where he served on the Board of Governors for many years. Ernie loved to learn as well as teach and was highly respected by all. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, veteran and grandfather…affectionately known to his 3 Grandchildren as “Pops”.
Ernie is survived by daughter Wendy Korner and her husband Dennis, of Germantown, TN; granddaughter, Ashley Buckner and husband Brian, of Arlington, VA; son, James Wood and his wife, Lauren of Kingwood, TX; grandchildren Carter Wood, US Navy, Rota, Spain and granddaughter Hannah Wood of Dallas, TX; sister Barbara Luchsinger and brother Robert Wood; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregiving staff at Plantation Estates Assisted Living for their heartfelt and attentive care. Additionally, the family would like to thank Sharon with Lake Houston Home Healthcare, the Nurse Practitioners of The Lady With The Lamp and Erin, Kingwood Medical Center ICU for their guidance and support.
Visitation will be at 1:00 followed by a memorial service for Ernie at 2:00, Friday, January 25, 2019, at Kingwood Funeral Home. The family invites you to a reception celebrating Ernie’s life at Amedeo’s Italian Restaurant following the memorial service.
