

Francesca Martinez was born on the island of Dominican Republic and migrated to the United States in 1971. She graduated from the Hoboken public school system and went on to acquire her Associates Degree in Marketing from NY Berkley College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and Economics from NJ Rutgers University. In her history of work, she has worked for NJ Probation Department, Department of Children and Family (DCF of NJ & FL), AFSCME FL Council 79, District 1199J NUHHCE / AFSCME.
Ms. Martinez is a person who strived to educate, empower, and serve the members of our community. Ms. Martinez served as Administrative Organizer for District 1199J NUHHCE/AFSCME for over 9 years (servicing over 10,000 members in NJ & FL). She was the driving force behind many District 1199J activities but is continued this initiatives in Florida. Some examples are: Voters Registration, Breast Cancer Awareness, feeding the homeless, The Women Committee, Political Action, Coalition of Black Trade Unionists in FL/NJ (CBTU), Hudson & Essex County Labor Council (CLC) in NJ, Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA), A. Philip Randolph Institute of Essex and Hudson County in NJ (APRI), National Coalition of Black Civic Participation in FL & DC (NCBCP),while in NJ Hoboken Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and NJ Hudson County Medical Reserve Corporation (MRC). Ms. Martinez had redirected her steps back to Florida & worked with AFSCME FL 79 again as an Organizer/Staff Rep. She continued to be engaged in the Census 2020, FRRC, Poll Worker 2020 & the FCBCP (BWR Committee).
She loved family and travel. She is survived by sisters, Angela Rosario and Leonor Douge; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

on July 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM.
