Dub was born on September 10, 1935, in Huntsville, Texas, to Fred and Loma Atkinson Niederhofer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Freda Baugh and Mary Lou Summit; and his son, Gene Wesley Niederhofer.
He graduated from La Porte High School in 1953 and went on to earn his degree from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, in May 1958.
While in college, Dub began his ministry as a Baptist pastor, serving two small churches simultaneously—Elm Grove, Texas, where he preached on the first and third Sundays, and Placid, Texas, where he preached on the second and fourth Sundays. He pastored Beasley Baptist Church from 1958 to 1963 and then Elmont Baptist Church from 1963 to 1966 while attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 1965.
In 1966, Dub transitioned into the oil and gas trucking industry after being recruited by Atlas Truck Lines, moving his family to Pasadena, Texas, where they lived until 1979. In the early 1970s, he co-founded Five Star Transportation with four friends. He continued working in oilfield sales and trucking into his early 80s.
Dub was widely known and respected for his remarkable memory, which remained sharp until his passing. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was passionate about teaching God’s Word. An avid outdoorsman, Dub enjoyed golf and fishing, but most of all he cherished hunting alongside his sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons on the same hunting lease for 50 years. His granddaughters and great-granddaughters were the lights of his life. He loved each of his grandchildren dearly and was immensely proud of them. Dub was also a gifted storyteller and joke teller who could always capture a room’s attention.
Dub is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Niederhofer; daughter Connie Rogge (E.R.); sons Joe Niederhofer (Darla) and Danny Niederhofer (Janet); bonus daughter Shawn Barbre (Bruce); bonus sons David Teer and Brent Teer; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
