

George was born on February 22, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas to Tony and Olga Karpos. He grew up in Uvalde, Texas and attended Uvalde High School where he played football and graduated Valedictorian of his class. He then attended The University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Chi Phi fraternity and graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Petroleum Engineering. Following college, George worked for Shell Oil for 30 years in Texas, Louisiana, and London, England. In New Orleans, he met his wife Gwendolyn and they lived there until 1978 when they moved to Kingwood, Texas. In 1985, George left Shell and worked for BP for 5 years before retiring in 1990. He attended Good Shepherd Episcopal Church of Kingwood. George was an avid Texas Longhorn football fan, collected antique clocks, and enjoyed working in the yard. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed keeping up with their families and their accomplishments.
George Toney Karpos was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gwendolyn Karpos of Kingwood, Texas, his daughter Stephanie Broman (John) of The Woodlands, Texas, and sons Philip Karpos (Lisa) of Nashville, Tennessee and Timothy Karpos of Austin, Texas, his grandchildren Robert Broman (Chelsea), Alexander Karpos (Livia), Shelley Dietz (Dan), and Andrew Karpos (Jean), and his great-grandchildren Sophie Dietz, Conrad Broman, Margot Dietz, and Hallie Broman.
George was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family. The Karpos family would like to give thanks to AccentCare Hospice and HomeWell caregivers for enabling George to remain at home with family in his final months.
A funeral service will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, located at 2929 Woodland Hills Dr, Houston, TX 77339, on September 29, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
A committal service will follow at Forest Park - The Woodlands Cemetery, located at 18000 Interstate 45 S, The Woodland, TX 77384, on the same day from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church of Kingwood, TX.
