If anyone ever cared, really cared for someone else it would have to be Gerardo Asiel Martinez. He was a warm hearted and well-liked individual, and these wonderful traits came easily to him because he was such a sociable and amiable person, someone who would always making certain that those around him had whatever they needed. Gerardo was a talkative person who was tactful at all times but typically said what he meant.
Gerardo was born on Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso, Texas. He was the son of Luis and Alicia Martinez. Gerardo was raised in El Paso Texas and Houston Texas. During his childhood he learned to be reliable and respectful. Gerardo was an obedient child who wanted to win the favor of others. He found it easy to show sympathy and to perform kind acts for others. These admirable qualities and radiant smiling would become a part of Gerardo's personality throughout his life. One thing Gerardo will certainly be remembered for is that he always knew how to make someone smile and laugh without trying.
Though Gerardo was frequently the one to initiate games and activities with his family, he was also quite often the family member who took the role of referee. Gerardo was a peace-maker. He was raised with 3 siblings. He had one twin brother, Luis and two older sisters, Aileen and Jannel. Gerardo and his siblings had the typical rivalries while growing up, but they cared deeply for one another.
As someone who reveled in the sheer joy of his experiences, Gerardo was always enthusiastic about new adventures. One special quality Gerardo had was that when he got up in the mornings, he always made sure his bed was made and his room was cleaned. As a young boy, Gerardo had several interests and was an active child. Gerardo took part in soccer. He was a member of Alliance Soccer Club. In his spare time, he liked to assemble Legos and write stories. He could play in his room all day without getting tired or bored, with an amazing imagination. Gerardo's memorable achievements included his art exhibition at a local hospital in 2nd grade.
For Gerardo, the school routines were never a problem, he loved going to school and didn’t like to miss a day. He seemed to be able to start a project and work right through to its completion. And he was able to do it quickly and efficiently. Gerardo was very observant and was generally quick at picking up new things. Gerardo attended Hidden Hollow Elementary School and Creekwood Middle School for 6th grade. His favorite class was Theater Arts and Math. He loved all his Hidden Hollow and CMS teachers.
There was one thing that all of Gerardo's friends knew and will still remember, and that is that he loved to talk. He could pretty much talk to anybody about anything. This quality is one of the primary reasons that Gerardo was such a popular person throughout his life. But Gerardo was also dependable, loyal and trustworthy. Gerardo was the kind of person who simply radiated good fellowship. While he maintained personal standards and his own personal values, Gerardo was very accepting of others. With a distinct skill for working things out, Gerardo was often the person who would organize events. In fact, Gerardo was comfortable playing the role of “host” for just about any occasion. When Gerardo made friends, he made true and lasting friendships. While growing up, some of his best friends were Andrea, Gael, Slava, Judah, Evan, Andreana. Later in life, he became friends with Diego, Thiago, Patrick, Cameron, Kenneth and Victor. But his lifelong friend is definitely his twin brother Luis.
Religion and faith were important to him. He was a member of St. Martha Catholic Church. He liked to distribute bulletins at the end of each Mass.
Not only did Gerardo enjoy traveling, but he also seemed to enjoy planning all of those trips and vacations. His favorite vacations included Disneyworld and Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels.
Gerardo was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was Mickey, a Toy Chihuahua, who was a best friend for 9 years.
Gerardo passed away on April 4, 2018 at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, TX. He is survived by Parents Luis and Alicia, his twin brother Luis and sisters Jannel and Aileen.
Gerardo was a fantastic conversationalist who could engage with just about anyone in a discussion. And whenever he said something, he meant it. Gerardo was a down to earth person, outgoing, honest and sweet. He was without question the type of person who enjoyed experiencing things first hand. He was practical and simple, but what friends and family will remember him for the most is the fact that he was so understanding and kind-hearted. Everyone whose life he touched will miss Gerardo Asiel Martinez dearly.
