Harry "Tom" Carpenter, a cherished, loyal, humorous, and family-oriented man, passed away on May 26, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on June 26, 1933, in Pecos, Texas, Tom grew up in Fort Stockton. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing from Baylor University.
He had the most wonderful laugh. Often, he was laughing at himself. He remained so close his whole life with his 2 brothers, Clark and Terry. They were the Three Musketeers and between them, they kept family close, and the Fort Stockton stories alive. (and always made sure there was plenty of Blue Bell ice cream on hand)
Along with his personality, handsome good looks, and wonderful sense of humor, Tom was an outstanding businessman. He was awarded “Salesman of the Year” twice and was always successful in each of his business ventures. He was creative and artistic, which only helped advance his career. Tom spent his entire career in sales, where he was known for his dedication and integrity.
In 1976, he married his beloved wife, Velda Carpenter, and they shared almost 50 years together. Tom was deeply devoted to his family and never failed to attend the Carpenter family reunions in Sweetwater, Gatesville, and Salado. He loved telling funny stories and playing his guitar and singing with others. He was very musical. He even wrote a song years ago about past reunions and the loved ones that went before us.
A resident of Humble, Texas, Tom was an avid fan of football and baseball, especially the Houston Astros. His sense of humor was well-known, as he always tried to make everyone laugh. Tom was a member of Second Baptist Church and faithfully attended his high school reunions in Fort Stockton, remaining one of the last members of his class. He consistently made a point to keep in touch with old friends and family. He enjoyed very much being a member of the church choir for many years and developed many great friendships there.
He was an amazing man. Loved his family and the Lord and did his best to please everyone.
Tom is survived by his wife, Velda; daughter, Lisa McGullion, and her husband Little Harold; stepdaughters, Brittany Hasting and Monique Hasting; grandson, Cody McGullion; granddaughter, Donele Johnston; and great-grandchildren, Julian Johnston, Dylan Johnston, and Kase McGullion. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, a nephew, cousins, and other beloved family members.
A memorial service will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home, located at 22800 Highway 59 N, Kingwood, Texas, 77339, on June 18, 2025, at 11:00 am.
