

A native Texan, Jim was one of the original members of The Texas Range Riders Association, a lifetime member of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving on several committees throughout the years. His love of horses was his greatest passion, as well as flying his aircraft out of Hooks Airport in the 1960’s. Jim loved his hunting trips in and out of state. Jim also loved dancing to Nat King Cole music. He was in the bail bond business for many years following his retirement. Jim’s generosity, love and thoughtfulness touched the lives of so many. He was known to many as Pop and Big Daddy.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nora Coghlan; son, James Bruce Coghlan; brother, Wayne Glen Coghlan. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Jo Coghlan; sons, Randolph Lee Coghlan and Gary Glen Coghlan; daughter, Pauline Coghlan Steffen and son-in-law Michael Thomas Steffen; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Ben Mathena and wife LaVerne, Eugene Mathena and wife Vernadene; numerous nieces and nephews.
Daddy, you were the source of our strength, our mentor, our irreplaceable best friend and our precious father. Your unconditional love and wisdom will be greatly missed.
The family would like to give many thanks to the doctors and staff at Memorial Hermann Northeast and St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital for the care you gave our father.
A visitation will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2011 with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Kingwood Funeral Home. Burial immediately following at Brookside Memorial Park, 13401 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX.
