

Joe was born in Smiley, Texas and was raised in San Antonio, Texas. He joined the army in 1964 and was stationed in Korea where he became a blackbelt in karate. In 1967, he met his soulmate and dance partner for life, Rosa Maria Dominguez. They married in 1968.
Joe was an aircraft inspector, technician and facility manager. He was dedicated to his profession for 46 years. When not working, he enjoyed bow hunting, dancing with his wife and skiing with his family.
Mr. Ortega was a devoted man to his faith, his wife, his family and his country. He dedicated his life serving his community by bringing souls to Jesus Christ through his church, St. Martha’s Catholic Church and through the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International organization. He and his wife, Rosa have ministered to many nations with a focus on marriage.
Joe is survived by his wife, Rosa, his four daughters and their spouses; Annette & Arnold Canales, Chriselda & Daniel Barrientes, Sandra Ortega-Frieberg & Dr. Rob Frieberg, Sonia & Jamie Brown. His seven grandchildren; Ethan Orlando, Andrew Canales, Lauren Orlando, Aaron Canales, Chazz Barrientes, Mae Brown, and Lucy Brown. He is also survived by his sister, Olga Bellg, her husband, Bruce Bellg as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
Joe was often called an elder statesman and a father in the faith. He leaves a legacy for generations and testimony serving our Lord Jesus Christ. Regardless of who he encountered he shared his favorite verse, ‘that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven and on earth and under earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father” Philippians 2:10-11.
A visitation for Joe will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, TX 77339. A prayer service will occur Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, TX 77339. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St Martha Catholic Church, 4301 Woodridge Pkwy, Texas, TX 77365. A committal service will occur Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 1:15 PM to 1:45 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
