Kathryn Ruth Melbert Tarsney, lovingly known as “Kay,” went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Born on April 24, 1950, in Velasco, Texas, Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend whose life was marked by grace, strength, and unwavering faith.
Kay lived in Kingwood, Texas, with her beloved husband of 49 years, Arthur “Dick” Tarsney. Together they built a life grounded in love, service, and faith. She is survived by her children, James Tarsney and his wife Autumn, and Cathy Theiss and her husband Blake; and by her treasured grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and pride, Parker, Beckham, Jett, and Denver Theiss.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Catherine Melbert, and her brother, Bruce Melbert. She is lovingly remembered by her niece Obrien Melbert King, nephew Miles Melbert and his wife Allison, and her grand-nieces and nephews Makenzie and Peyton Bragg, Marlee, Mace, Sawyer, and Beckham Melbert and great-grand-nieces Spencer and Presley Mollett and Reid Bragg.
Kay dedicated over 30 years to teaching deaf education in Humble ISD, retiring in 2020. Her classroom was a place of compassion, excellence, and transformation. More importantly, for more than 40 years, Kay faithfully taught God’s word to women, leading countless hearts to a deeper relationship with Christ. She was known for her deep biblical wisdom, her joyful spirit, and the way she lived out her faith every day.
She loved spending time in personal Bible study, exercising, cooking and eating healthy meals, and being with those she loved. Her life was a testimony to the beauty of walking closely with the Lord.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Kingwood Bible Church (3610 W Lake Houston Pkwy, Humble, TX) on Friday, July 11th at 3pm. A visitation will be held the evening before on Thursday, July 10th at 4-7pm at Kingwood Funeral Home (22800 US-59, Kingwood, TX).
Kay will be deeply missed by all who knew her. But her family finds peace and joy in knowing that she is now exactly where she has longed to be—in the arms of Jesus.
