Kensington "Kensi" Margaret McSweeney, age 27, passed away suddenly on October 27, 2026, her 27th birthday. She leaves behind a family and countless friends whose lives will forever be changed by her loss.
Kensi was one of a kind. Standing 6'1" tall, she was hard to miss, but it was her larger-than-life personality, sarcastic sense of humor, and absolutely beautiful smile that truly made her unforgettable. She was fiercely independent, compassionate, loving, and adventurous. She had a way of making her presence known, and those who knew her will remember her quick wit, strong spirit, and the unmistakable personality that was uniquely Kensi.
Born and raised in the Humble/Houston area, Kensi had water woven into her life from the very beginning. A lifelong competitive swimmer and lifeguard, she eventually became a lifeguard trainer during her college years. She had an undeniable love for all things water-related, especially the ocean. It was more than just an interest; it was a part of who she was. That love carried her through her college years and into her professional life.
Kensi graduated from Quest Early College High School, earning her associate's degree from Lone Star College at the same time. She went on to graduate from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 2021 with a degree in Maritime Administration and was a proud 3rd generation Aggie who also rowed Crew. She began her maritime career as an intern at Texas International Terminals and most recently worked as a vessel operator with AET, Inc. That work continued her connection to the water and the maritime world she loved.
When she wasn't working or enjoying the water, Kensi found happiness in traveling, embracing cold weather, and working out. She also had a special love for her Mustang, which was another reflection of her independent spirit and adventurous nature. She loved online gaming, especially with her fiancé, Tyler. Animals held a special place in her heart, particularly cats, including her own beloved Pancake and Trouble. She loved helping foster kittens, giving them care and affection while helping them find their forever homes. Her compassion for animals was a beautiful reflection of the loving heart behind her sometimes sarcastic exterior.
Above all her accomplishments and adventures, Kensi was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, fiancée, and friend. She is survived by her parents, Kalin and Kevin McSweeney; her beloved older sister, Kori; her fiancé, Tyler Burnette; and her maternal grandparents, Patty and Alton Magee. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jack and Nancy McSweeney.
At just 27 years old, Kensi had already lived a life filled with purpose, adventure, accomplishments, and love. Her time here was far too short, but the impression she left on those around her will last a lifetime. Her beautiful smile, unmistakable laugh, sarcastic wit, independent spirit, and love for the ocean will forever be part of the memories we hold close.
The world feels a little less bright without her, and the waters she loved will forever remind us of her. Though we cannot have more adventures with her, we can hold on to the memories of all the ones she had and the love she left behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. We will share details with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the American Diabetes Association or LMN RESCUE GROUP in Humble, TX
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our Kensi.
