

Kilby B. Casey, 79, of Kingwood, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2011. Kilby was born July 20, 1932 in Montgomery, Alabama to Cilby Lee and Lottie Pearl Richardson Casey. He grew up during the Great Depression. He attended Arlington High School and later studied statistics, accounting and computing at SMU. While at Arlington, he met his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Herma Lee Lawing. They were married in Rockwall, Texas on May 9, 1952. They had five children, who gave them thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Kilby was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was of the Baptist faith. Kilby loved boating and fishing with his sons in Mississippi. He loved music and played both the guitar and piano by ear. Most of all, Kilby loved to travel with Herma Lee. They traveled all over the United States by train and their motor home for years. He was fond of saying " there isn't a road stop in the country that I haven't been to!'
Kilby worked for Bell Helicopter in Arlington and later Ingalls Ship Yard in Mississippi. There he also owned and operated his own business, Advanced Computer Research, which was ultimately destroyed by Hurricane Camille in August of 1969. He moved his family to Houston where he worked for W-K-M Valve Company and then Texas Iron Works (TIW). He started at TIW in 1979 (before the personal computer was invented) and began automating all of their business applications from accounting to inventory to purchasing. Although he retired as Director of Information Systems at TIW after twenty years of service, he continued working witht the company for several years as a consultant.
Kilby pursued a lifelong passion for science and technology, working on developing and documenting an alternative perpetual energy source.
Kilby is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Herma Lee Casey; children, Steve Casey and wife Sue-Anne of Kingwood, Texas, Glen Casey and wife Patti of Knoxville, Tennesee, Mark Casey and wife Pam of Texas, Karen Loudenback and husband Bob of Damon, Texas, Leigh Ann Fleischer and husband Richard of Atascocita, Texas; grandchildren, Zach, Stephen, Joshua, Clinton, Kristen, Jennifer, Laura, Kevin, Justin, Brandy, Jerry, Stuart and Lisa; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Devon, Alyssa, Alex, Kayla, Jacob, Kyle, Reese, Autumn, Michael, Ashley and Cole; sister, Jewel Martin of Falls Church, Virginia.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Kingwood Funeral Home.
