Mabel was born in Bristow, Oklahoma, on July 4, 1931, to Ruby Pearl Terrill Harris and
Merville Leroy (Jack) Harris. She spent most of her childhood in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. She
moved to Oklahoma, where she attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and
then graduated from Holy Family Cathedral High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mabel received
her bachelor's and master's degree from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas. She
started her professional life as a nurse and taught at several colleges, including Old Dominion
University in Norfolk, Virginia. Mabel was the first director of the hospice program for the
Veteran's Administration in Hampton, Virginia.
Mabel loved the arts, especially symphony, ballet, and opera. She was an avid reader and a
women's rights, advocate. Mabel had a heart of gold and helped many families and loved ones in
their time of need. Mabel leaves behind her children, Patricia Diann Floyd Boehm, Michael

White Floyd, her children's father, George Mural Floyd. Mabel died due to complications of lung
cancer. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Towards the end of her life, she
would say, "I am content with my life, I had a career that I loved, a family I love, and friends that
I love"! The memorial service will be held at Mabel's spiritual home, Good Shepherd
Episcopal Church, Kingwood, Texas, on February 6, at 1 pm. The Reverend William T. Richter
Jr. will officiate the memorial service. Her final resting place will be Van Alstyne Cemetery, Van
Alstyne, Grayson County, Texas. Instead of flowers, you may give in her honor to Lung
Force, National Stem Cell Foundation, American Diabetes Association, Of substance.org, or the
Music Department at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
