Born on January 21, 1945, in Minden, Louisiana, Martha was raised in a large and loving family where she was the oldest of five children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bobby and Ernestine Moreland of Homer, Louisiana.
She is survived by her loving husband James Noel Morris (Jim), son Paul Walton Roberts and wife Amy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, step daughter Lauren Morris MacLean and husband Jason of Scarsdale, New York, and daughter Caroline Morris Ballog and husband Jason of Nashville, Tennessee, as well as many grandchildren.
After spending her childhood in Homer, Louisiana, she attended Baylor University for a short while, before returning to Louisiana to complete her college education at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, with a BS & MS in Education. She devoted more than twenty years to elementary education in Baton Rouge, touching countless young lives through her leadership and dedication. She retired after serving as an Assistant Principal, leaving behind a legacy of service and encouragement to students, families, and fellow educators.
While living and teaching in Baton Rouge, Martha married her husband, Jim, in December 1977, at Broadmoor Methodist Church where they attended. She was actively involved in church life, participating in various ministries and helping organize Vacation Bible School, where she shared her faith with others.
Martha moved with her husband and young daughter, Caroline, to Kingwood, Texas in 1990, after Jim was transferred by Exxon. She began this next phase of her life participating in numerous clubs and charitable organizations, including the National Charity League alongside her daughter, and remaining deeply involved in Bible studies and faith-centered activities throughout the years.
Martha and Jim created a lifetime of memories through family vacations where they would pile their three children into the family van and head out on a summer adventure.
They enjoyed many trips during that time from the west coast and Grand Canyon, to North Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore, to the east to climb the Kill Devil Hills near Kitty Hawk, and along the southern Gulf Coast, and countless locations in between. They were able to experience most of the United States together where these journeys became treasured family stories that would be told for years to come and were neatly documented in a million family photos throughout the house.
During their many years together, Martha and Jim also enjoyed traveling to other parts of the world exploring Japan, Mexico, and all over Europe including several favorite river boat trips on the Danube and the Rhine. Included in her travels, Martha cherished visiting her children and grandchildren in all the many places they have lived.
Martha also enjoyed spending time at home working in their yard by taking care of and watering all their plants from her favorite spot on the deck. She enjoyed being surrounded by greenery and flowers.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Caring Hands Assisted Living and Hospice Care in Porter, Texas, for the compassionate care they provided to Martha in her final days.
A memorial service celebrating Martha's life will be held on June 15th at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, with visitation and fellowship to follow in the church's Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Martha's memory to First Pres Kingwood or to a charity of your choice.
