Michael was a great airman for the Texas Air National Guard and the 272nd Engineering and Installation Squadron. He really worked hard to train and mentor those who were on his team and he truly cared. I recall two important events for our unit; the first was a major inspection in 2007 and the next was our big 2012 deployment. In 2007 we needed a leader to step into the Quality Assurance section as the current QA leader was retiring prior to the inspection. Michael asked to step into the position despite the huge effort required and the likelihood that he was inheriting challenges that would not be resolved. He helped us pass our inspection with high marks and earned a reputation for excellence and dependability. in 2012 as we prepared for deployment, Michael requested a retirement because he was not able to deploy. He had back injuries from his work climbing poles for ATT and the military. We asked him to stay. We needed him more as a mentor and leader for our young team than as a deployer. Michael stayed through the deployment. He retired just after to spend more time with his nephews but he earned our greatest respect and admiration. He was a great airman and great American!
