Norman John Blumberg was born in Seguin, Texas on August 10, 1931 to Robert and Nola Blumberg. As a child he loved playing a variety of sports and was actively involved in The Boy Scouts of America eventually receiving the highest honor as an Eagle Scout. He went to Seguin High School where he lettered in basketball, track, baseball, and played as the quarterback on the football team. He graduated from Seguin High School in 1949. He then went onto Texas Lutheran for two years where he continued his love of sports and joined the ROTC. He then continued his higher education at the University of Texas at Austin. It is there where he found the love of his life, Anita McKay. Little did they know that what first started off as a blind date would turn into a love that would last his lifetime. He graduated in 1955 with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating he soon started working for Schlumberger where he stayed for the next thirty years. While with Schlumberger he served two years in the army. His dreams came true when he married the love of his life Anita McKay on the 22nd of February in 1957 at the Farlington Methodist Church in Arlington, Virginia. They then had their first addition to their family, a beautiful baby girl whom they named Roselyn Kay. Three years later they had another buddle of joy, who they named Robert Harvey. Due to John’s job with Schlumberger the family of four moved to a variety a places for the next several years. They eventually settled into the Livable Forest, Kingwood, Texas. They soon joined the Kingwood United Methodist Church where they have been members for thirty-five years. John was a proud member of the church, he actively served as an usher and was a part of a variety of committees and councils. He was also a life member at the Kingwood Country Club where he spent many days enjoying one of his favorite pass times, golfing. He served as the treasurer for the MGA and also held the office of the President.
John was a man of honor. He would always put one hundred and ten percent into everything that he was involved in including his church, friends, and family. He would keep his word whether that be ushering at church on Sundays or going to the local Mexican Restaurant, Charo’s, every Thursday night. His heart was so pure and kind and always knew what to say at any given time. He would stay fit and healthy right along side his wife at the Kingwood Athletic Club doing water aerobics twice a week, playing golf when it wasn’t scorching hot outside and keeping up his duty of ushering at the church. He was a proud Brother, Father, Grandfather, and Husband. He will be deeply missed and will always be in the hearts and minds of the people he has touched throughout his lifetime. Though he is gone physically he will still always be here spiritually.
