Paul was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on January 19, 1946 to Paul Gombos and Anna Lep Gombos. He grew up in Carteret, NJ and had the Jersey accent and quick wit to prove it (along with being an officiando in Sabretts hot dogs and NY pizza).
Paul married his love, Carol Ann Harchar, on March 1, 1969 and they raised two daughters, Shannon and Jenny in North Plainfield, NJ before being transferred to Kingwood, TX with Exxon. Paul had a career with ExxonMobil, from his starting job at Esso in 1968 until his retirement from XOM in 2001. You could always find him in the office before everyone else (“if you’re on time, you’re late”) and he was known as a fair but skillful contract negotiator.
Paul could appear to be quiet but he was always listening. To those in his inner circle, they enjoyed his humorous quips and sharp wit. His “straight faced” storytelling humor often got everyone laughing even in the most unexpected times. The world will seem a little sadder without him in it.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Carol, daughters and sons-in-laws Shannon and Mark Lalmansingh of Atascocita and Jenny and Brian McDaniel of Magnolia. He is also survived by his greatest joys, his grandchildren Noah and Bailey McDaniel.
In true Paul fashion, he requested that there be no funeral ceremony. Instead, he wanted those that loved him to go out and raise a glass in his honor (and a slice of good NY pizza…no fork, folded only)…laughing and reminiscing with family and friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kingwoodfuneralhome.com for the Gombos family.
